31 Day Challenge - Day 3: Gold

Three days into the challenge and I'm already posting a day late!  So not how I like to be, but yesterday was a fluke.  I ended up having to work 5 am to 5 pm without a lunch, come home and shower, then go immediately to a friend's house for dinner.  I would have rescheduled except for the fact that we were in charge of bringing the ingredients and their car was broken down.  I very well couldn't leave them stranded like that, could I?!
As the title to this post states, yesterday's challenge was gold.  I was kinda freaking out about gold day because I have two gold polishes, or so I thought.  Turns out I had between 15 - 20 gold polishes I had never worn.  I am not a huge gold fan so I never wear it, but for some reason I buy it?  Can you explain this to me?  I guess that is what classifies my "hobby" as an "addiction".  Lol.
I loved Disco Dolls.  It has so many pretty colors jam packed into one polish.  I know that this is one coat over a base color, but I dare say it would be opaque with one coat.  To achieve this look I painted on Venus and let it dry completely which took about an hour.  Then one by one I taped off each finger, painted on Disco Dolls, and promptly removed the tape.  Had I used a coat of Seche on top of Venus I could have cut my dry time down to about 30 minutes, but it was my day off and I was watching a movie, so I wasn't it a big of a hurry. :-)

Base coat: Pro FX Fiberized Ridge Filler
Base color: Venus from Avon - 2 coats
Glitter: Disco Dolls from Nicole by OPI - 1 coat
Top coat: Seche Vite

All these pictures were taken outside without the flash.  Here is a close up of Disco Dolls so you can see all the different glitters in this amazing polish.

Have you guys ever been surprised by the amount of one polish you had that you didn't even know?

Normally I post the little links so that you can view everyone's posts for the challenge, but I can't seem to be able to get them to work! :-(  I'm so sorry because I love adding this feature to my posts.  Once I am able to figure it out, I will add it to each post!

Stamping With Mash Plate 49 Over Avon Strawberry Polish, and Black Shatter from OPI

Happy Monday everyone.  Let me just be honest and say that I am so glad it is a new week.  Last week sucked ass!  I had PMS all week and on top of that came down with Strep Throat!  I am sure that my PMS was on high from the Strep, too.  We spent all of our grocery money on the doctors visit, but oh well.  What can you do.  Looks like we will be on a steady diet of what ever is in our pantry, which isn't much!  Won't be the first time we've had to do this, and I'm sure it won't be the last.
Today was the first day I have had energy since Thursday.  I went to bed at 4 on Thurdsday and slep until I went to work at 5, worked a half day on Saturday, went home sick, noticed my throat was white, went to the doctor and then slept. I was so mad that I had to miss the Monster Truck show.  My parents pre bought my husband and me tickets since we couldn't afford them, and it was the first year in five years that I didn't have to work this particular event.  Imagine my anger.  Good thing I was too tired to do anything about it.
Enough about my crap weekend.  On to the more important things in life, my nails!  I saw this mani that Valiantly Varnished did I was so excited to use it.  As I was looking through my polishes the other day I almost threw out my crackle because let's face it, no one uses them anymore.  But her mani did and i fell in love with it.  I am going to play around with this idea until I finish off my bottle of crackle, so weather or not you like this mani, be prepared to see some more like this. :-)  I hadn't used my crackle in so long that I actually had to use thinner in it!  And yes, it works just fine.

Base coat: Sally Hansen Triple Strong Advanced Gel Nail Fortifier
Base color: Strawberry from Avon - 1 coat
Crackle: Black Shatter from OPI
Stamping color: Stamp Me! White from Essence
Stamping plate: Mash 49
Top coat: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat

What do you guys think?  Still hate crackle or could you wear something like this?

AIS: Stamping With Mash Plate 41

Happy Sunday all.  I hope that you are all enjoying your extra hour of sleep.  I haven't participated in one of Sunday's Stamping Challenges in the Facebook group Adventures In Stamping in a few weeks now.  Today's challenge was for us to stamp over glitter.  When I was playing with some of my new polishes last night I came up with this color combination and was very excited to try it out.  It turned out a lot better in my head, but I still really like it.  I hope you do as well.

Base coat: PVA Glue - If you're not sure what I am referring to, you can check out my blog post about it here.
Base color: Skull and Glossbones from OPI - 2 coats
Accent color: Luxe Lavender from Avon - 2 coats
Glitter: Cheatin from Pure Ice - 1 coat
Top coat: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat
Stamping plate: Mash 41
Stamping color: Stamp Me! White and Stamp Me! Black from Essence

This was taken outside without the flash

Skull and Glossbones is slowly becoming one of my favorite polishes!  I really like the white over the purple.  I think next time I will use all white instead of the black over the glitter and Skull and Glossbones.

SassyNails Nail-Aween Nail Art Challenge: Day 10 - Any Halloween Inspired Mani

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!  So, I am not going out with my friends' to take their children trick-or-treating, but we are going over there for dinner.  I tried to take a nap before doing this, but couldn't fall asleep and I wanted to make sure this got posted today.  I would hate to have worked all month long on this challenge and be removed from the list of participants for not finishing in time. :-)  Today's mani is inspired from the lovely Sarah over at Chalkboard Nails.  This is one of my favorite blogs and if you have no idea why, just go, go check her out, you will not be disappointed.  We are not allowed to dress up for work so I knew this would be perfect for the challenge and my "costume."  I really need to get better at doing straight lines.  :-(

Base coat:  Sally Hansen Triple Strong Advanced Gel Nail Fortifier
Base color: Superstar from Pure Ice - 2 coats
Ruby Slipper from Avon - 2 coats

Sat-ART-day Challenge: Tarts

Hey everyone!  Today marks the start of a new art challenge!  Debbie Crumpet, owner of the Facebook group, Crumpet's Nail Tarts, decided to start a new challenge since our summer one ended.  I only participated in a few days of the summer challenge because I joined about half way through.  I also didn't know how fun they were!  The thing I love about a group challenge is seeing the variety of nails people can come up with for one theme.
Today's theme was... tarts.  I know, I know, right?!  What the hell!  Debbie posted this in the beginning of September, ( I think) and I brainstormed the entire month!  I almost didn't participate but I figured, what the hell, it is a challenge for a reason!  Off to google I went.  Turns out there are two definitions for a tart.  One, "a small pie containing fruit or the like,"  and two, a "prostitute or promiscuous woman. " Both definitions come from the dictionary.  So, if you're anything like me, your jaw just dropped.  You know it did.  How the hell am I supposed to draw a pastry on my nails!  I sure as hell wasn't going to put prostitutes on my nails!  Welp, I believe I solved the problem.  As soon as I was done with these, I asked my hubs what was on my nails and he guessed on the first try, so I figure they can't be that bad, right?  Hopefully you can guess as well.

If you guess strawberries, you're wrong!  They're blueberries!  I am very pleased with how this turned out and I hope that you were able to guess what they were.

Base coat: Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Hardener
Base color: Audrey from Zoya - 2 coats
French tip color: Superstar from Pure Ice
Blueberries:
light blue - Vintage Blue from Avon
dark blue - Why Not from Sinful Colors (both applied with a dotting tool)
stems - Scream from Pure Ice (applied with a small brush)
Top coat: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat

Thanks for stopping by and feel free to comment! :-)

ABC Nail Challenge: Anchor Stamping

Today marks the start of a new challenge.  Our summer challenge has come to an end, (all though I was a TERRIBLE participant) and a new one is beggining.  It is called the ABC's Challenge.  I am excited to do this!  Each Wednesday we will be working on one letter of the alphabet and doing a mani that starts with that letter.  Example: A is for Avon, and using an Avon polish, or B is for Bee and stamping with a Bee, etc, etc.  Hopefully you get the picture because I am terrible at explaining stuff like this.
I had my whole A mani planned out, even consulted with the hubs about it, and as I was searcing through my plates I found one from Essence with an anchor on it.  The light bulb went off.  A is for anchor!!  So off I went to do an anchor mani.  I REALLY need to work on my patience when it comes to stamping.  I also need to remember that my Sally Hansen top coat is not Seche Vite, and if it is applied in the same manner it WILL bubble!  Ugh.  Oh well.  As much as I want to be perfect, no one is.  Except Chalkboard Nails...

Base coat:Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Nail Hardener

Base colors: White - French White Tip from N.Y.C. - 3 coats

Blue - Smooth Sailing from Essie - 2 coats

Red - Ruby Slipper from Avon (also used for the half moons)

Stamping colors: Stamp Me! White from Essence

Blue - Why Not from Sinful Colors

Stamping plate: not numbered from Essence

Top coat:  Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat

Well, what do you think?  If you have some time you should check out these other A mani's...

Tic-Tac-Toe Nail Art

In the Facebook group Crumpet's Nail Tarts, formally know as the Purple Crumpet Fairy, on Mondays we do Monkey See, Monkey Do manicures.  All this means is that we recreate our favorite mani's that we have seen on other blog's and show our interpretation of them on ours.  I like doing this because it showcases other's blogs and gets the word out about them.  Hopefully bringing in new readers to their blogs.
I found this image on Pinterest and from what I can see Steff did this manicure.  I don't quite understand Reddit's layout or what it even is but, the Pinterest link took me to her page.  You can see her mani here.  I immediately knew I needed to do this mani.  Now, I got VERY sidetracked while doing this mani.  I wanted it to be perfect so I ended up redoing the pinky, which still smeared, and the thumb.  I spent WAY to much time on it, but I think it paid off.  It is so stinking cute.  I applied the hearts with different sized dotting tools and used a stiping brush for the Tic-Tac-Toe board and the x's on my thumb.

Base coat: Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Hardener
White: French White Tip from N.Y.C. - 3 coats
Black: Black Creme from Wet N' Wild - 2 coats
Pink: Strawberry from Avon
Black for the tic tac toe board: Black from Kiss Brush On Nail Art Paint

Both of these pictures were taken inside with out flash, in the same room.  Can anyone explain to me why my skin tone is so different in each of these pictures?

Sorry for my crusty cuticle on my thumb.  I try to hide my thumbs as much as possible but I had to show it for this post.  I really hope that you guys like this.

Olympic Nails: Stamping With Mash Plate 43 and British Flag

Yesterdays challenge in the Facebook group, Purple Crumpet Fairy Challenge, was for us to do a mani pertaining to the Olympic Opening Ceremony and the flag.  My creative juices were not flowing to much because the day before was a terrible mani day!  I did three different manicures and couldn't wrap my brain around any of them.  They all looked like crap!  I hate bad nail days.   I didn't get a chance to post this on time yesterday because I went to my best friends daughter's  birthday party right afterwords.
Who set a new high score on the Pac Man machine yesterday?  That's right, me!  Granted it resets every day but I got afruit that I had never seen before!  I love Pac Man.  That is the one game that I could play for ever and ever.  Any other game, like Centipede, lasts for about five minutes.
I did my "olympic rings" in red and blue over white to represent the USA.  And I did the British Flag to represent where the Olympics are being help this year, London!  I am so jealous!  I want to go to London so bad.  I'm sure the natives are hating all the traffic there right now though.  My two must watches in the Olympics are diving and gymnastics, but seeing as how we have no tv, other than Netflix, I doubt I will get to see any of it this go around.  :-(

Base color: French Tip White from NYC - 3 coats  Swatches are available here.  Please note that if you view this blog post, Rainbow Bright by Polish + Plus is no longer avaiable, as Polish + Plus no longer has her store open.
Stamping color and red in flag: Ruby Slipper from Avon
Stamping color in blue: Textured Teal from Avon
Blue in flag: Hot Spot from Sinful Colors
Stamping plate: Mash 43
Top coat: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat

Do you watch the Olympics?  What are your must sees?

Nicole by OPI Khloe Had a Little Lam Lam Swatches and Stamping With Konad M65 and

In a few of the nail polish groups that I am in on Facebook, I heard that Target was having a polish sale.  My husbands allergies were killing him the other day and he had ran out of Allegra, so I generously offered to run to the store and pick some more up for him.  ;-)  I always wanted to try the Nicole by OPI polishes because OPI is one of my favorite brands, but I felt that seven dollars a bottle was kind of a rip off for a "drug store" brand of polish.  I know it isn't a drug store brand but they designed it to be sold in stores like WalMart, Target, CVS, Fred Meyers, etc etc.  I picked up three of the Kardashian Kolor's, (can I say how much it bugs me when companies spell things wrong on purpose, Kolor, I mean really?  Normally I won't even use a product or company that does this.  I know, I have issues.)
I didn't think that I really like Khloe Had a Little Lam-Lam but I fell in LOVE!  It is such a beautiful dark green cream color. The application was perfect!  I could have done it with one layer of polish had I done it a tad thicker, but I went pretty thin with my layers.  I loved it so much that I wore it for two days.  It is so stinking pretty.  I will let the pictures speak for it self.

Base coat: Sally Hansen Hardener and Chip Skip from OPI
Base color: Khole Had a Little Lam-Lam from Nicole by OPI
Stamping color: Jade from Avon
Stamping plate: Konad plate 65
Top coat:  Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat

Here is the finished product

My original idea was to put a matte top coat on over Khloe Had a Little Lam-Lam and then stamp with the same color but it didn't show up like I wanted it to so that is when I switched to the Jade polish.  I wish that it would of worked out but it didn't. :-(

Have you guys tried any of the Nicole by OPI polishes.  Do you think they are over priced or just right?

Avon Strawberry Swatches and Purple Crumpet Fairy Challenge: Beach Towel

Debbie Crumpet of The Crumpet has formed a very intense summer challenge for us nail polish freaks. Like stated in the title, todays challenge was beach towel. When I first learned of this I knew exactly what I was going to do. My best friend brought me back the only beach towel I have from Hawaii about five years ago when he was on leave.

While attempting to paint the turtle on to my ring fingers, I smuged them up and I decided it was a great time to try making my own nail decals. You can see how it is done in this you tube tutorial.

There is one thing that she doesn't mention in this video and that is that you have to wait a few hours between painting your design onto the plastic, and peeling it off. I waited about four hours. I am not sure if you normally need to wait this long but we left the house for that long. I had tried this one time before and didn't wait long enough, about an hour, and my hard work had been destroyed. :-(

They turned out great, except for the fact that the clear nail polish that I used is pretty thick and old so it bubbled like crap. You will be able to tell in the picture.

There is not really much else to say about this mani, so I hope that you like it.

Base coat:OPI Chip Skip and Avon Smooth Beginnings

Base color: Strawberry from Avon - 1 coat

Light pink for flowers: Flutter from Sinful Colors

White: Acrylic

Top coat: Sally Hansen Insta - Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat

Sorry for the chip on my pointer finger but I had to take this this morning because my camera had died. This is one hour into work. :-(

Look how gross and bumpy my nail sticker turned out to be. Other than that I think it turned out pretty good.

Strawberry taken in indirect sunlight. I had the BEST direct sunlight photo of Strawberry but I accidentally deleted it! I am kicking my self in my pants!

What do you guys and gals think? Have you tried making your own nail stickers? Was it sucessful?
